Sunday, Eric and I went to see the Minnesota Orchestra with 3 of my piano students. It was a field trip organized by APPI (Association for Professional Piano Instructors). We enjoyed a tour of Orchestra Hall, the concert, and then a meet and greet the guest pianist following the concert. His name was Yevgeny Sudbin. He was born in Russia, but lives in London now. He started playing at the age of 4 when his mother taught him. I even videoed some of the interview. The students all asked some really good questions. One was, who was his biggest critic. He said his wife was. Really the question was whether he gets coached by anyone in particular now, and he said he sees his old teacher sometimes, but that his wife mostly critiques his music. She teaches piano herself.
Thanks Bekah and Jess for watching our kids ALL afternooon!!!
